An Ambigious Mind

In the first chapter of Slaughter House-Five, we are introduced to a war vetern, Billy Pilgrim, from a disaster in Dresden. He begins telling us about his past, although we shortly find out afterwards that he has trouble remembering his memories from his experience. We then see that he had a rather unstable life after his return, we find this evident when he describes to us what he used to do after his wife was asleep. He shows us that he has a "disease" which involves the abuse of alcohol. Pilgrim's "odyssey" bases itself on a man's struggle and rememberance of time not so buoyant.

Kurt Vonnegut's entailing beginning to a novel is ambigious in the way that he leaves his readers in a state of;apprehension towards what might happen throughout his novel. Something I found fascinating about the book is that Vonnegut leaves little or no room for forseeing what might occur in his mind blogging adventure. I'm thrilled to see what occurs when an old war veteran and his freind (Bernard V. O'Hare) are set to relive all their horrific memories in what is Slaugther House-Five.

Terza Rima

As I walk up to my dreaded fate,
My soul is the one of whom hell take,
but never knowing my one and true mate.

Ready as my heart is at stake
I'm sure of when, ill come to my fateful end
and ill surely know who is true and who is fake.

Irony In The Twilight Zone?

In my opinion, poetic justice is displayed in two ways. When the man and women first encounter each other, they are flabbergasted by seeing another human presence and begin to fight. The man beats down the women and takes the food that she was going to eat. He then feels the need to go back and help the woman; lying unconsciously on the floor at the time. This act of nobility and guilt in my perspective is poetic justice, not served but realized.

Both of the survivors keep searching the destroyed town. The man grabs a dress off a manikin in a store and gives it to the woman, as an act of reconciliation towards the woman. The woman then takes the dress and goes inside a Recruiting Office to change, while inside she sees pictures of war propaganda. This is a crucial scene in the episode because the women has some sort of insignia on the back right side of her suit, and in one of the war propaganda pictures the slogan states, "The Enemy Meets Our Troops." And the enemies are those soldiers who have that same symbol sowed on their uniforms. The women finds out that her so called "companion" is on the opposing force in the war, and shoots at the man. The man is surprised by this and walks away in awe and disgust. A few days later the woman comes back in regret, the man consoles the woman and they walk away together in harmony. The poetic justice is seen again, in the same manner.

Another way that poetic justice is displayed here is the fact that both people work together, keeping in mind that their enemies in the war. They manage to overcome that disagreement and instead begin solving the problem at hand, which evidently is the extinction of mankind.

A New Way Of Spamming? Blogging.

I once thought that books were the best and only way,for that mattter, to express oneself for the public to read. A year ago I was introduced to a more conservative and better way of being able to express yourself without having to worry about what a New York Times editor or analyst might have to critique. This wonderful way of writing about what ever your mind wants is also known as blogging. "The word "blog" is a portmanteau term for Web log or Weblog" (Sarah Boxers blog) We as readers never really know what sources we can and which sources we cant trust, many of us find blogs online and automatically assume it is a college professor's work. Like I mentioned before I've neevr really been fond of blogs because I didnt know they existed,(may seem ignorant) but I didn't. So, like we learned last year in PDR our mind only notices what it wants to see, I cant assure you that almost everyone in this classroom had encountered a blog and neevr knew the significance that, that piece of writing held. I then began to notice blogs ALL of the internet, everything was blogs, blogs this, blogs that, I had enough. I then understood the importance of why there were so many, "there are, by one count, more than 100 million blogs in the world, with about 15 million of them active." (Sarah Boxer) I couldnt believe this statistic, and began to ponder why it was so popular to write blogs, "Reading blogs, it's pretty clear, is not like reading a newspaper article or a book. Blog readers jump around. They follow links. They move from blogs to news clips to videos on YouTube, and they do it more easily than you can turn a newspaper page." (Sarah Boxer) This was very intriguing because I then understood why blogs were so famous and why they were used to so much.

Blogs, in my opinion are the only time that you wont be criticized or graded on your punctuation or structure(wink wink Mr. Tangen). Another very interesting thing that I read in the article was that bloggers may tend to drift off their topic and begin to click on links. They may begin discussing the Elements that make up an Atomic Cell and by the time they realized their on Wikipedia reading about Napoleans conquest of Europe. All these factors make up what is essentially a blog, a writing corner (if you will) that allows you to be true to who you are, let nothing hold you back.
